These Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center (MSKTC) factsheets are intended to be a starting point for understanding the normal functions of the spinal cord and how those functions might change after spinal cord injury (SCI). The impact of injury is different for everyone, so it is not possible to answer every question of interest. However, these fact sheets will answer common questions. The factsheets are produced through a collaboration between the MSKTC and the SCI Model Systems. These materials undergo expert and consumer reviews to ensure they are up-to-date, evidence-based, and consumer-friendly.
