You Deserve the Correct Equipment
UsersFirst believes you should receive the correct equipment that works for you through your insurance company. However, if your insurance does not fund a portion of your wheelchair, there may be other sources that can help you with payment of those items. Here are some resources.
National Resources (Listed Alphabetically)
- Bellows Fellow (United Cerebral Palsy Foundation) - find local chapter and apply there, application form available online.
- Brighter Tomorrow Grant (Multiple Sclerosis Society) - provides $1000 (i.e. seat elevators)
- Elks Lodge - search by zip or city for local lodge
- Kiwanis Clubs - search for your local chapter
- Knights of Columbus find a local "agent" for assistance
- Lions Clubs again, search by state to find local chapter
- Make a Wish Foundation for life-threatening conditions (i.e. SMA would, CP would not qualify)
- MDA - assist with cost of repairs
- NOCK (National Organization Caring for Kids)
- Rotary Clubs - find local club by city name
- United Way find local chapter by zip code
State Resources
- Tech Act projects Look for state specific foundations
Other ideas
- Fundraisers: raise money through churches and school
- Contributions: people can seek contributions from large sports teams, or businesses/local businesses
